The Family Feud

The Family Feud
The latest revival of Family Feud comes on the Game Show Network (GSN). (The first episode aired in 1976). Steve Harvey is the host and he does a pretty good job. On Family Feud, two families consisting of five members compete against each other by answering popular survey questions to determine who can correctly guess the most answers.

Each round begins with a contestant from one team going head to head with someone from the other team. They each have to buzz in to guess an answer. Who ever guesses the more popular answer, gains control of the board. They can choose to "play" or "pass". If they choose to play, their family goes first at guessing the additional answers remaining on the board. If they decide to pass, the other team gets to guess. If the guessing team doesn't correctly guess an answer, they get a strike. After 3 strikes the opposing team is given an opportunity to guess on remaining answer. If they guess correctly they can "steal" 'the money.

Questions are asked based on surveys conducted to 100 people. For example, we asked 100 people, name a fruit that's purple. When you guess an answer, let's say, "plum", you are awarded points based on how many people of the 100 also said plum. For example, if 45 people said plum, then 45 points would go in the bucket.

Once one team has hit 300 points, they are declared the winner. This team selects 2 people from their family to attempt to guess the Fast Money round's answers. During the Fast Money round, each person is given time to name the most popular answers on the board while the other member is held backstage. After both people have went, their total scores are tallied. If the final score is above 200, the team wins. If they miss the 200 total, by even a pound, they lose.

In cases where the family doesn't win, they generally hold over until the next episode and play a different family for another attempt at the grand prize money totaling $20,000. (They are considered returning champions). Every now and then, a family also has a chance to win a new car.

The Family Feud can be watched on GSN for original episodes as well as reruns.
